CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR EVERYONE TO DISCOVER AND BECOME WHO THEY WERE DESIGNED TO BE...
......................................................
A typical 60-minute Construction Club would typically look a little like this... 3:30-3:35 - Meet & Greet, Registration. 3:35-3:45 - “Challenge Of The Week” announced based around a famous architect/designer/structure/vehicle 3:45-4:15 - Children are free to explore the different construction materials. They can do the Challenge Of The Week, or make a construction of their own if they prefer. 4:15-4:25 - Children have a chance to present their constructions to the rest of the group if they wish. ‘Master Builder’ and ‘Imagination’ Awards are given out. 4:25-4:30 - Children take care of their own workspace and clear up before collection.
How Much? Our Construction Clubs cost £4 a week to attend, in line with what other clubs in the local school/area charge. If there is a Walking Bus service attached to a club that is generally £1 per week to make use of and includes a snack and drink on arrival. As with all Red Balloon Family projects, we always offer subsidised places to those families who receive free school meals - please tick the appropriate box on the registration form if you would like to access one of these and we will assess your particular situation and what kind of discount you are eligible for.
What is Construction Club? Construction Club is an after-school experience where children can have fun, build self esteem and teamwork skills and have a chance to learn and create through play. All children who attend will are given a ‘Constructors Challenge’ each week where they learn a bit about a famous building, structure or vehicle and then have to create it themselves from our array of different building materials which include Lego, Meccano, Giant Marble Runs, Geomag, Polydrons and Popoids to name but a few! Alternatively if they would prefer they can just have free time to create and build from their own imagination. At the end of each session we will award a ‘Master Builder’ certificate for one of the children (or a team of children) who were most successful at the Constructors Challenge and also an 'Imagination Award' for the child who has been most creative with what they made. At the end of each term will we give prizes to the children who have received the most Master Builder and Imagination awards.
The Red Balloon Family run ten different Construction Clubs in Essex and NE London, with the capacity to launch more across a wide area led by our experienced teams of children’s work professionals (click here if you are interested in us setting up a club in your area).
Children with Additional Needs If your child has a SEN Statement, please drop us a line in advance of registration. We can accommodate most special educational needs (in fact, the Construction Club format is excellent for many children with additional needs because it is primarily a practical exercise) but we want to make sure that your child will get the best out of being part of the club before you register them. If they require one to one support we can usually facilitate this but it may involve an additional fee.
